What is MCP, and how do I use my CRM with ChatGPT or Claude?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol that lets an AI assistant call an outside system's tools. HelloTeam offers an MCP server at /api/mcp, so an AI client that supports MCP can read, and if the key allows, change CRM data with an API key.

Connecting HelloTeam to an AI client

  1. In HelloTeam, create an API key under Settings → API; for reading only, the read scope is enough.
  2. In the AI client's MCP or connector settings, enter the server address: https://<your CRM address>/api/mcp.
  3. Give the key as a Bearer token for authentication.
  4. Ask: for example, show me the deals won last week.

What the AI can see and do

  • As much as the key's scope allows; it can write only with the write scope.
  • The tools call the same operations as the screens, so a stage move is recorded in the history here too.
  • The key has the same rate limit as the REST API and can be revoked at any time.

How a particular AI client adds an MCP server is described in that client's own documentation; menus may change.

Does it need a paid plan?

API keys are not part of the free plan; a paid plan is needed.

Does the AI see colleagues' personal data?

Only what the API key reaches; it is worth limiting a key to the scope it needs.
